About the event
Darlene’s pieces are Handwoven Muka Fibre (Harakeke) inspired by the natural beauty of Muka and traditional methods of weaving in which her Ancestors have woven, with some of her Pieces having a twist of contemporary weaving. She has been inspired by her Whakapapa and Matariki through my weaving journey.

Darlene’s passion for weaving began once her and her family returned to Aotearoa after living in Australia. She started her journey trying to learn her Whakapapa and connection to who she was as a Māori, her influence is Whanau. She was introduced to weaving by her uncle Jackie. Whilst showing her a Korowai and Kakahu he had made, he commented "you should make one" and that planted the seed for her passion.
