Lancashire dialect and Victorian Broadside ballad singer Jennifer Reid is honest, powerful and authentic. Reid embodies the honest truth of folk music. Reminding us that the streets, pubs and alleyways are where folk lives. For this show, she will be supported by local legends, Poetic Justice.

About the event
Jennifer has recently supported Eliza Carthy, John Cooper Clarke, and Pulp, and in April brings her one-woman show to New Zealand. Jennifer is passionate about broadside ballads (popular songs printed on single sheets of paper, that were sold and sung in public places in Britain from the 16th to the early 20th centuries) and talks about their history, and who might have been selling and singing these songs, and why.
Folk music has lost it's way, says Jennifer, and people have lost touch with their geographical heritage. The working classes made music as a provocation and this is a tradition Jennifer continues: think rousing songs and passionate oratory.
