Accessibility and inclusivity
We take pride in our warm, welcoming culture here at The Incubator and we want everyone to feel supported when visiting our spaces. The streets are wide, our spaces all have ramp access, and the Historic Village have a baby changing table, one disability toilet and we have an allocated disability carpark. As an organisation that operates with such diverse areas of society and with many different types of people, we hope to help support everyone equally when it comes to accessing our spaces.
Unfortunately, not all of our spaces are accessible but please know that we are actively working with the Tauranga City Council (our landlords) to develop and improve these areas where it lacks. The Incubator does have an accessibility coordinator, Melanie who is happy to support you with any further details. Please get in contact with her directly if you have any special requests or queries by emailing access@theincubator.co.nz.
How to get here
Bus number 55 and 59 will drop you off on 16th Avenue, this is the closest bus stop to the Historic Village. If you drive, please see below about parking at The Incubator. When arriving at The Incubator, please enter through the main gates of the Historic Village near the Village Hall, follow the cobblestone paths to lead you to all of our main attractions and be sure to check out Taranaki Street, Brook Street and Main Street galleries and stores too! The Incubator main office is near the back of the Historic Village on Main Street, in the Creative Community Campus building. Follow the rainbow road and we are stationed in the colourfully painted and decorated building just across from Detour Theatre.
Parking
We currently have free on-street car parks along 17th Avenue, directly outside the Historic Village front gates. There is a tow away zone inside the gates, closest to The Pot House, this is for our staff car parking only. Please plan ahead for events you are attending, as we are close to the Tauranga Hospital, parking can be minimal depending on the time of day. If you are needing disability parking, there is one directly outside the Creative Community Campus, take a sharp left as you enter through these gates. With big groups, vans, buses or any other parking that needs special requirements, please get in touch with us at info@theincubator.co.nz.
While you're in the Village...
We have a great sensory environment for both kids and adults to explore! Check out all of the murals and art installations, our resident artists working on their own projects or take a break at the Whipped Baker cafe! If you're into geocaching, head to Phreaze Factory for instructions on how to find the hidden taonga or you can follow the pathway through our native bushwalks up to Okorore too. Taranaki Street will lead you to our Village pets, the eels and hidden all around the village is some awesome painted rocks that the kids can find and hide for others to seek.
