About the event
This class has been created for graduates of the Sew From Scratch series, or anyone who would like to have at sewing with a simple beginner friendly sewing pattern, or maybe you just really want to make yourself a Rad tote bag.
Learn how to sew the perfect bag for Sewin' and Lovin’ the earth! This is no ordinary grocery tote - it’s a fully internally pocketed tote bag to stow your half-made sewing projects & tools in, OR to take to the bulk bin store with all your jars to refill, OR yes the farmers market and grocery store too! You will learn how to read a pattern, pin and manoeuvre larger pieces of fabric, stitch for durability, and gain confidence with sewing through thick fabric (requires some more pedal to the metal).
A selection of suitable fabrics & webbing for handles will be supplied. But BYO special fabrics if you have them in mind. Medium-heavier weight fabrics like cotton canvas, drill, corduroy or denim are suitable. Upcycling a curtain, bedspread or tablecloth would work well (1m x 1m total). + the internal pockets can be light-medium weight fabrics and a great way to use up sewing stash scraps. There will be a variety of pocket styles for you to choose from and make it your own. There is the opportunity to make the outside of this tote quilted for extra sturdiness - if that's your preference, bring your fav cotton fabrics (1m x 1m total but can be smaller pieces) and some interfacing foam (comes 90cm wide at spotlight, buy 1m long).
